Welcome ^.^!

I'm Lloyd May, a Researcher, Musician, & Game Designer at Stanford University

My research focuses on building tools that center Disability Joy in musical experiences.
I'm a 5th year Ph.D. candidate at CCRMA

I was born and raised in Carletonville, a small mining town outside of Johannesburg, South Africa. As an undergraduate, I was trained as a biological data science engineer at Dartmouth College (USA), where I graduated in 2018. I shifted gears slightly during my master's degree where I focused on musical neuroscience and graduated with an MA in Digital Musics in 2020. I was lucky enough to meet Prof William Cheng, who introduced me to the field of Disability Studies, and that has formed the foundation of my research ever since. I now focus on developing captioning, haptic, and music personalization systems that aim to center D/deaf & Disabled Joy in their design. I can also be found designing games and making music.
